ⅉ 001 ] [ these city streets

Sep 10, 2011 11:08

One minute she'd been walking to her apartment, then next she was on a street she didn't recognize. Stopping short, she took a few steps backward, glancing up at the building and shaking her head. Definitely not her apartment.

Also, not night. This was clearly day.

She knew she'd had a drink at the art -- sorry the installation, but she hadn't ( Read more... )

For once in his meet-and-greet career in Chicago, Flack is not paying attention when the Rift opens and tosses Jane into his path.

What he is doing is standing in front of an abandoned building in middle of the street that may not be so abandoned. He has gotten complaints from some of the other Wanderers regarding a mugger running around Chicago specifically targeting Wanderers. Chicago PD wasn't doing anything about it, which meant that it's his job to. His job comes with less perks.

So, Jane, when you're being dumped onto a Fulton sidewalk, Flack is using a set of bolt cutters to cut a chain off the door and make his way inside. He doesn't have his badge somewhere visible, not announcing himself, and just generally looking suspicious.

What do you do?

First of all, this is most of Jane's confusion coming to an abrupt halt, because she recognizes a ten sixty-four when she sees one. Even if she hasn't been a beat cop in a while, it's odd that no one else is doing anything. Making a face, she moves quietly, closer to the wall to try and get a better look at the subject. He doesn't seem like the unlikely burglar, but she knows there isn't really a way that he should look.

Shaking her head, she simply disregards the actual insanity of her unnatural displacement and moves toward the perp. Her hand claps onto his shoulder, moving to pull him away from the doorway and keeping herself guarded from the set of bolt cutters.

Those would hurt if they clocked her.

"Boston PD, you'd be smart if you just dropped the cutters and put your arms up. I really don't want to pull my weapon on my ni-- day off."

Flack straightens a bit at the sound of the voice. The woman identified herself as Boston PD? She must be a new Wanderer, but he also didn't want to spook her. He does as she asks and places the bolt cutters on the ground, before turning back to look at her.

"Easy. I can explain, Officer -- "

"Officer Rizzoli," Jane starts as she moves to pull him away from the door a bit more. She doesn't have her cuffs on her, but really, she's just trying to stop him from breaking into the place. Her foot toes at the cutters, pushing them away from him more.

"You can explain once I've given you a pat-down. Are you holding anything illegal or any weapons? 'Cause if I find them on you and you told me you were clean, it'll just make this harder."

"A pat down? Really?" Flack rolls his eyes because if she just lets him explain, it wouldn't be necessary, but forcing the matter won't get him anywhere either. He sighs, before reaching behind his back to get his gun, holding it up for her to see, before popping the clip, as well as the spare bullet in the chamber before putting them down.

"Anything else you want me to do, or should I just assume the position?"

"Yeah, a pat down." The tone that she replies with is so full of sarcasm that she doesn't even ensure that her actions are courteous. Her feet tap to his instep, shifting his feet further apart as she begins to pat her hands over pockets and the like.

"You might want to watch the tone, too," Jane retorts. "It's not exactly winning you any contests here."

Flack makes a bit of a face as he is forced into the appropriate position, and let her pat him down. He's not fond of this, but he doesn't want to get shot either. He takes a breath, before glancing back over his shoulder at her.

"There's something on my belt you might be interested in," he says slowly. "And I swear that's not a come on."

There was a slight roll of her eyes as she made her hands make the rounds around his form. Of course, when she got to the belt and to the familiar feel of leather and metal, she exhaled.

"A badge? You didn't think to start off with - I'm a cop?"

He smirks. "Would you have believed me?" Because he fell through the Rift once too, and he probably would have done the same thing she did.

"Besides -- you said you had a gun. I didn't feel like getting shot today."

"Yeah, well, I lied."

Exhaling, she steps away from him and runs her hand though her hair again, "Look, it's hard to step away from the job. Even when you're in a strange place."

"You're preaching to the choir on that one." He pulls out of the stance, before turning to face her and extending his hand to her. "Don Flack. Welcome to Chicago."

It's not the best explanation in the world, but it's at least the start of one.
