Grant Park appears to be a popular spot today.

In the morning, Peter Burke is taking his daily run. Then, rather suddenly, he's not running anymore, but flat on his back as he hits the two-mile separation mark. He'd thought he'd had a few feet to go, but either he wasn't keeping track as well as he thought or Neal isn't where he was, because ( Read more... )

For once, Castiel doesn't appear out of nowhere.

For once, he's actually walking. It's slower than his usual method of transportation, but no less enjoyable. He does not have to be anywhere for any particular reason, so sometimes, a nice walk in the park is a good way to spend an afternoon. So he happens to be walking through the park when Peter hits the barrier, and that makes his head tip to the side.

There isn't anything for the man to run into, no wall to hit, and yet the man seems to have landed on his back. He made his way closer, before leaning over the man and frowning.

"Are you alright?"

It's probably best that he's not appearing out of nowhere. So far that either seems to mean monster or new person, and without the confused look of new Wanderers, that would probably end in Castiel getting a gun drawn on him.

As it is, Peter just blinks a little at having somebody leaning over him.

"Yeah, fine, thanks," he answers, sitting up and rolling his shoulders. "Just a little bruised," he adds with an amused headshake.

Better to find it amusing than let it frustrate him.

Castiel nods, looking him over, before looking over the space in front of him. "It seemed as though you ran into an invisible wall. It was very strange."

He then remembers his manners and extends a hand to him to help him up. "Are you hurt?"

"I guess it would," he says after a pause, not actually sure how much he should say. If this is just some random normal Chicago citizen, than it's probably best not to mention the whole 'it's just part of what the rift did to me' bit. It's just the only explanation he's got.

"Thanks," he repeats, taking the offered hand and pulling himself to his feet. He takes a few steps back just to be safe; it would be better not to get yanked back again. "No, I'm alright." He brushes himself off, adjusting his jacket to better hide the holster and the gun under it again. (After all the craziness at the Tower, even if it has finally stopped, Peter's taken to not going anywhere without his gun.)

Castiel isn't so worried about a gun. It wouldn't exactly do much damage to him. But the man seems to be moving on his own and not suffering any other damage, so he then turns and continues to study the place where he ran into the wall.

If you do not explain, Peter? He may be here for a while. Just so you know.

Peter's starting to walk away when he realizes Castiel's still staring at the spot where he fell. He blinks for a second, and then sighs, taking a step back towards the man.

"You're not going to find anything."

Castiel turns back to him, the confusion still evident on his face. "You seem certain of that." Angels can see more than humans can, but Castiel has learned that it's worth finding out the reasons why a human is saying that he won't find anything before he assumes that it's simply because of that fact.

"That's because I am," Peter answers, and sighs. "It wasn't the road, it was me. So you're not going to find an answer there."

He is trying to come up with a non-crazy-sounding way to ask if the guy knows about rifts so he can actually explain, but there just doesn't seem to be one.

"I see." He didn't. But it seems like the appropriate thing to say on some level.

So he's going to turn and look at you instead, Peter. Enjoy having an angel of the Lord thisclosefromyourface.

Enjoy is one word for it. One very untrue word.

"Jesus." He backs up a couple of steps, holding a hand out to hopefully keep the guy from following. "I guess that means you want an explanation, huh?"

Castiel still is learning the meaning of personal space. And asking for things as oppose to just looking for them. This is just a very curious situation, and he's worried for other people who might be running into invisible walls.

"Yes. An explanation would be useful."
