Once upon a time, there was an alternate city of Chicago, the lovely people residing in it, and many Rifts placing these people into various different predicaments, spanning from the humorous to the perplexing to the utterly heartbreaking. Wondrous different people, of all shapes and sizes. So it has been, and so it will be, for years and lifetimes

The carnival they went to went off thankfully without a hitch, despite most things turning out disastrously via Rift muckings. But he wanted something a little more official, and nothing slice of normal like dinner and a movie with your girlfriend.
It's nightfall and Sam is waiting for Buffy outside the Kashtta Tower. He's dressed up nicely, and he hasn't noticed yet, but the Rift's latest theme has changed the style of his hair.
As in, it is now shorter and smoothed back.
This was not in the plans. Neither is many of the other things that will befall on them tonight.

When she arrives at the door, however, her life is a different story. She's dressed head to toe in a pretty ball gown, fancy shoes, and her hair is swept up in an elegant up-do. She realizes it sooner than Sam notices his look, stopping in the middle of the sidewalk and turning around, almost as though she isn't sure what happened.
Which she isn't.
She's about to say so as she looks up at him, and she's cut off with a small bit of a smile. "Wow. You clean up nice."

The confusion is very much shared, Buffy.
"Uh--" A small laugh. "Are we going somewhere else at the last minute...?"

The dress is very impractical. Not good for slaying at all. And add to the fact that the shoes are pretty uncomfortable? And she's starting to get why playing pretty, pretty princess does such a number on the girls.
"Besides -- you're the one who looks all ... dashing."

"I don't know, either," he says, some of the sheepishness rubbing off on him. "But you do look beautiful. I said that already."
Despite not being sure of what's going on, there's a pull. Telling him to go with it somehow. "Shall we?" he asks, lips curving into the slightest smirk as he opens the cab for her.

She has a feeling that really tall guy + a whole lot of dress = one really interesting cab ride.

Somewhere along the way, the cab will shift into an elegant carriage from the regency period.
"Okay, I officially have no idea what's going on," he says to her, poking his head out of the carriage and... yes, there are two horses at the helm.

She can officially say, however, that she is not complaining.

"Milady," he says, holding out a hand so that he may help her out of the carriage. Getting into a cab with the poofyness was a challenge. Sam has a feeling getting out of it might also prove difficult.
He's ready to grab her by the waist to help her down himself. As a prince would.

However, Buffy is accepting chivalry in all it's forms tonight, regardless of whether or not she needs it, so as Sam helps her down, she leans against him with a smile. "Why, thank you, good sir."
Reply
"You're very welcome," Sam says, leaning down to kiss her. This might not meet Disney's PG standards, but that's alright. The Rift does modify certain things once things fall through it.
And she's looking very pretty tonight.

"So. We have a date to get to."

The waiters and the patrons already having dinner are dressed as elegantly as they are. It all seems to be something out of a Be Our Guest number, to be quite honest.

And then they could pick up that kiss later.
She steps through the door, looking around as they go in and she raises her eyebrows. "Wow. This is ... ritzy."
Reply
Sam will be holding you to that.
He waits for her to step through before following her, and he stops in his tracks as he observes just how ritzy the place is. The server comes to greet them, kissing Buffy's hand, and soon there is a rendition of Be Our Guest, the candlesticks twirling in place until they both find their seats.
... Yes, really.

" ... Okay, that's ... okay."
