wade in the water

Harry Potter woke up believing that he was at Hogwarts in his first year of schooling. It was shortly after the incident with the troll in the bathroom where he, Hermione, and Ron first made the team that they did and took down the troll together. When he woke up in an entirely unfamiliar bed, he was confused. He was more than confused really. No ( Read more... )

If the Rift is going to make her a fairy godmother for the week, she is going to be the most stylish fairy godmother they've ever seen. As far as she is concerned, nothing at all had really changed -- there is a wand she can't seem to lose, and small, barely noticeable wings between her shoulder blades, but other than that, she's still Sophie.

She hasn't attempted to try any magic yet, but that's because she's still getting used to the whole thing.

She's wandering her way down to the cafeteria when she spots an owl out of the corner of her eye. There's a small boy sitting next to it, not one she's seen before, but she's curious enough about the bird to make her way closer.

"That's a lovely animal," she says softly. "You must take good care of her."

Harry Potter has spoken to a few people by now so he knows that he usually lives here as himself in a much older age than this one. It's strange to think about, but Hermione also said that it shouldn't last so that means that he should wake up tomorrow back where he's supposed to be.

While the other Harry, he wakes up here where he's supposed to be and hopefully he grows to be a bit taller.

He smiles a little shyly at her. "I only got her recently for school, but I try to take care of her. She carries letters to anyone where I'm from," Harry says, running a hand along her back. "Her name is Hedwig."

Sophie doesn't know Harry either way, so she's not aware of the change at all. She likes talking to people, however, so she will stop and have a conversation with just about anyone, especially if they have something interesting about them.

"Hedwig is a lovely name." She moves to sit across from him, a finger coming up to stroke the bird's fingers gently. "Do you have a lot of friends to send letters to?"

Harry appreciates it anyway. He didn't used to like talking to people much, but he didn't have many options when it came to talking to people. There were people at the school that he went to or the Durseleys. Then he went to Hogwarts and everything changed. He's had to adjust.

"It suits her, I think," Harry says firmly, nodding and the bird almost seems to preen at the attention, the petting. "No, not really. Not yet. I went to another school for awhile that didn't have any owls or pets, and no one really liked me there."

"I hope you make more friends here then," she says with a smile. And she means that. Children should have friends. Friends are what makes the world worth being in. "I'm sure they would love to receive letters by owl."

"Thanks! I hope so too. Is it easy to make friends here?" Harry asks this because it feels like an important question. Some places he did not make friends easily, but Hogwarts was the exception. This could be the exception too. "I think they would too. It's a bit exciting isn't it? More exciting than getting something in the post."

Slight pause as he looks at her curiously. "...can I ask why you're dressed that way with a wand? Are you a witch?" He hasn't seen the wings.

"For a nice boy like you? I think you'll make them in a snap," she says with a smile. "Just give it a little time, and you'll see."

She glances over at the wand when he calls attention to it, and shakes her head with a smile. "Fairy godmother, I think. At least for this week so far, anyway."

"Really? I hope so. I'll try my best," Harry says, smiling back at her and nodding in response as he eats another crack.

He looks from the wand and then back to her, tilting his head just slightly. "I've never met one of those before. Whose fairy godmother are you?"

"I don't know yet," she admits honestly. "I just ... woke up this way. I'm still seeing how it goes."

"Oh, maybe you can do something special if you've found who you're supposed to be godmother over. You get extra powers," Harry says thoughtfully as he looks at her. "Or maybe you're more of a godmother of everybody."

"A godmother of everybody," she muses, picking up the wand and looking it over. "That would be ... quite the adventure. Taking care of wishes for everyone in Chicago -- I could be at it a while."

Harry smiles at that, nodding in agreement a bit. It sounds like a grand adventure to him. "You could be, but then you'd help a lot of people too. Are there a lot of people in Chicago? I've never been before and I woke up in my room with Hedwig so I haven't seen outside yet."

"Thousands of people. Chicago is one of the major cities in America, and more are arriving every day with the Rift and all."

She pauses for a moment, before giving him a small smile. "Would you like to go for a walk? I'm sure Hedwig would like to get out and stretch her wings."

"That's a lot of people. I hadn't realized that actually."

Harry smiles back at her at the offer before he nods. "I would, yeah. I thought if I went too far I wouldn't be able to find my way back." Not that that would have stopped him eventually. "And Hedwig would like it too."

He gets to his feet, and Hedwig follows.

Sophie gets up as well, starting to make her way to meet him on the other side of the table, bringing her wand with her. "Well, I will make sure you don't get lost. How does that sound?"

"That sounds brilliant," Harry says with a small nod as he follows her. He has his wand as well, and he'll keep it out as long as she has hers out. "Thank you for that."
