Charlie Wellman is sitting on the top of Kashtta tower, just looking down at snow covered Chicago and the people milling beneath them. He goes up to the roof sometimes to get a small bit of privacy, and the chance to stretch his wings, and tonight is no exception. He's stripped down to tank top, wings stretched out behind him.

Arguably, it's a little cold for this kind of behavior, but sometimes, a little cold can be a bit sobering. It silences the voices in your head for a little while and lets you rest.

Sometimes, Charlie just needs that small moment to rest.

But that doesn't mean someone can't pester him.

Martha often goes up to the Rift at times for the very same reason. It is quiet up there and peaceful especially at this time of year. No one likes to head out there, because it's as cold as it is up there. However, it still gets one as close to the stars as they can nearly get in Chicago. There are many buildings that are taller, but this is the closest she can get to the sky.

When she steps out, she isn't expecting anyone else to be out there, certainly not anyone who isn't wearing a shirt. She, herself, is bundled in quite a few layers of clothing and a winter jacket to boot since she gets cold easily.

Though she doesn't really mind a little cold either or more than a little cold. It helps to be numb at times especially with the flood of memories that tend to come around this time of year.

"... are you alright?"

He glances back at her at the sound of the voice, wings shifting to resettle and pull out of her way as he turns and nods. "I'm fine. Sometimes you just have to let them out to stretch every once in a while."

It can get tiring, having them in all the time. Every once in a while, you need to give them a little breathing room.

Martha nods as she steps up to him, smiling at him a little before she settles beside him on the top of the roof. "Glad to hear it. I wasn't certain... not everyday you see someone out in the winter without their shirt on," she says, not that that's a particularly bad sight to see at all.

It's a rather good one. Martha Jones, the narration is shaking her head at you. "I usually come up here to get a little space, but I do so with multiple shirts on," she says with a small smile.

He laughs, before nodding. "It ain't that bad yet. Iowa had one winter where it got to be twenty below -- your nose would have just about frozen off your face if you'd let it."

He's exaggerating, just a touch, but at the time, that's what it had felt like.

"...honestly, twenty below? I can't say I mind Chicago in that case although there was that bloody blizzard a few years back," Martha says but she still shakes her head.

She smiles at him a little. "Remind me to never go to Iowa. Not that I'd been planning on it. I'd just rather keep my nose."

"Damn near close," he says with a nod. "And we had our fair share of blizzards too -- snow tends to build up when you live in a flat place."

"I can only imagine how many blizzards you must have had there," Martha says, shaking her head as she thinks of it. Chicago is a bit on the cold side for her, and she can only imagine a place like that. "It likely builds up and builds up for awhile, not quite melting away for weeks."

"Sometimes we even run out of places to put it," he sighs. "The piles get so high that you can't really see around anything."

"I can only imagine," Martha says with a small smile at the thought of it. "Did it ever get so high that it was hard to get out of your house?"

He shakes his head. "You clean off the area by your doors regularly enough, and it'll keep you from getting too blocked in. Driving though, might be another story."

Once those roads get blocked, all bets are off.

"Yeah, I am not the best at driving currently as it is. It might be the whole switching over to the other side of the car, and I never needed to drive much in London," Martha says with a small smile as she looks sideways at him.

"The only time I drove out of the country was when I was over in Iraq, and ... there weren't really roads there." Meaning road rules weren't really an issue. It didn't matter if they drove like crazy people -- they were usually the only ones on the road.

"You've been to Iraq?" There's a small pause. "I walked through part of it once."

When the world was ending. "That wouldn't be much of an issue at all there."

He nods. "I was a medic in the sixty third battalion." As far as his sanity is concerned, it isn't the smartest decision he's ever made, but he survived. And he doesn't regret it -- a home grown Iowa boy, it's hard to regret serving your country. And so many that aren't him had it so much worse.

Luna is well aware people like to come up to the roof, she's a fan of it too. But as she's handing out little handmade gifts, insects and little animals made of tiny beads, she'd hate to think someone might miss out - so she's come up to see if anyone's around.

She appears to be right.

There's a small head tilt of concern on the fact he's not bundled up against the cold. Luna knows she's quite snuggly in her lion hat. But.. he doesn't look very warm. Although, she does notice that he doesn't seem to mind.

"Hello," she says with a small smile.
