For once, he hasn't been thrown out of an establishment for picking a fight or anything of the sort. He's had a mellow kind of day, and he's a lone wolf--figuratively and literally speaking--so he doesn't mind walking around alone.
He doesn't know if the same should be said for the girl he just walked past. He kind of stops to do a double take.
Alek lifts both brows at the robes. Not exactly what you see your average teenager wearing. Besides, hasn't anyone told her it's not exactly safe to be out this late at night? "You lost or something?" he asks her, hands still stuffed into his pockets.

She only turns her head, red hair flying and spilling over her shoulder after the motion. She gets a look at him and is instantly okay with her choice of strangers to bump into. She flashes a little smile before turning herself more fully.
"Or something. I'm new in town."

He slips his hands further into the pockets of his jacket, tilting his head with an expression that cannot quite conceal his curiosity. It's the robes. It's something about how she doesn't look lost but clearly comes from somewhere else. "From where?" he asks lightly.
"If I may ask."

So when she hears a voice and the sound of someone running up behind her doesn't exactly make Shaylee feel super comfortable, so when she turns around, she's a little defensive.
"Are you?" She snaps back, snark fully turned on.

"Do I look like I'm lost? Because you sure do," he snaps back, having gathered up his courage again, this time hitting her with his defense mechanism. ...His defense mechanism isn't very good, but that's Leon for you.

It's a way she deals with all of this, the Rift, the changes she has had to deal with, all of it. It's a coping mechanism.
Peter isn't entirely thrilled with it, as Chicago is more than a bit dangerous but she does it nonetheless, always promising him that she'll be careful.
She sees the girl from across the street, sees her robes and the curious way she looks at the world. She could very well be wrong but she's not going to take the chance of passing up a Wanderer in need.
"Excuse me," she says, calling out to her with a smile. "Are you new here?"

"Is it that obvious?" She asks, her Scottish accent spilling out with a little laugh. "Must've gotten myself turned around." She's not quite ready to admit that she's just... appeared in the city. This woman, for all she can tell, is a muggle, and those aren't the types she goes telling any of her secrets to.
