Dave is out for a walk with Tesla, as he is often these days, the pudgy Corgi bouncing along at his feet. The sudden yelling makes them both stop and turn to blink at Tonks, Tesla's ears folding back as she continues.

Similarly, Dave adjusts his hat.

He and the dog exchange glances, as though coming to a silent decision together, and both walk cautiously over to her. "Um, miss? Excuse me-us-but are you..."

She's obviously not okay.

"Um."

"There are plenty of shit people in Chicago! You could've taken any one of them! They wouldn't have been missed! NO! You bloody stupid bleedin' rifts had to take Doyle!"

It takes her a moment to realize that someone else is there. Tonks lets out a breath. She is about to start on another rant when she hears David.

"What?" Tonks turns her head to look at him. Her hand comes to rest on her chest. She's almost out of breath.

She is most definitely not okay.

"Well, it's not every day I come across people yelling at the sky."

He can already tell he's not helping.

"It's just-" He presses his lips together, frowning. "You probably don't want to attract attention that way, yelling about rifts in the middle of the park at night."

"Oh." He is probably correct. There may only be him on this path but anyone could have heard her yelling. The odd person might just think she is mental. The unodd person might suspect she's a Wanderer.

She sucks in a deep breath. "You're probably right." She doesn't exhale immediately.

Hermione Granger did not expect to bump into Tonks while the woman was in the process of yelling at--well, she is not sure who Tonks is yelling at, but the whole matter has her immediately worried over the other witch.

After all, she is speaking of wanting someone back to murder them.

Hermione is certain it's anger speaking but--she is still concerned about Tonks. Tonks is not facing Hermione, as Hermione only has a look at her back, so she inwardly bites her lip, wondering if she should say something, wondering what to say.

"...Tonks?" Hermione asks, her voice a mixture of hesitation and genuine concern.

Tonks freezes. "Hermione?" Slowly, she turns around.

This might not be a Tonks that Hermione knows. She's angry. She's terrified. She's upset. She's so frightened. There's no attempt at bravado. Everything shows on her face.

She opens her mouth to speak but nothing comes out.

Hermione's concern only grows when Tonks finally turns around.

Her breath catches in her throat momentarily, and she stops forward, tentatively but she does. "Tonks, what is it?" Hermione asks. She doesn't bother asking if Tonks is all right--the question seems utterly unnecessary considering how Tonks looks.

Whatever it is, Hermione wants to help.

"I don't..." Tonks closes her mouth and hangs her head. It's a few moments before she can collect her thoughts well enough to think and even, what does she say?

Finally, Tonks looks at Hermione. "I didn't mean to worry you, Hermione." She can't tell her, she just can't. "I just got a spot of bad news."
