Bela is oblivious to the fact that Damon's brother is in Chicago. She's oblivious to Katherine as well, for that matter -- in fact, she doesn't even know Katherine is relevant. If she did, well. That would be another story entirely, but until that particular warning comes from Damon, she can't really bring herself to care.
Especially if she doesn't know there's anything to care about.
Right now? She's simply all about the books.
The thing she's always loved about university libraries is the wealth of information that they store. If the information is rare and hard to find, there's a good chance that it can be found there. She's currently lost in the history section, running her fingers over the edges of the books and searching out one in particular.
Elena really doesn't want to slack off in school too much. She did it the last time things started falling apart, and there are only so many times she's going to be given a free pass -- nor does she want one. She wants to prove she can handle this, and she's responsible enough to not let the emotional mess that is her life get in the way of her future.
A future she hadn't even contemplated before. It was always surviving one thing to the next.
She has to work on a paper, and is gathering up research for it.
Elena reaches for the same book Bela does, at the exact same time, and it's only until their hands bump together Elena takes a step back a little, giving her an apologetic smile.
"Oh! I'm sorry," she says. "You should grab it. You were here first."
There's an apologetic smile back, as she shakes her head and hands her the book. "No, it's fine. There's two copies." It's not uncommon in a library, and she seems to be beefing up for some kind of assignment. "I was looking for the older edition anyway."
Elena's smile widens a fraction, and she takes it, but she peruses the section for that other copy. "Here, let me help," she says, and then turns back to Bela with subtle curiosity.
"Have you read this before?" she asks with interest. Bela looks like... well, a worldly sort of person, so Elena wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
"A long time ago," she sighs as she moves along the bookshelf, looking for the other edition. "I was researching the history of something for work -- I think the same information might apply here as well."
Especially if she doesn't know there's anything to care about.
