I don't have up-to-date info on a good roofer - but I used to work for an organisation that organised re-roofing grants, and if the leak is on the chimney side of the attic, it's likely that the flashing round the chimney has failed.

I have a gutter clearing scoopy-thing-onna-stick if you want to borrow it? You'll need a big ladder though, and if the downpipe is blocked that might be a lot more faff. Apparently you're supposed to clear your gutters every spring and autumn. I don't think I know anyone who does - this may explain all the waterfall fun everywhere.

I have also used serving spoons in the past to clear my gutters. This does not go well with the ladies.

If your downpipe is blocked, get whoever sorts it to stick a cage over the top to stop it happening again, especially if there are leaves falling in the gutter.

You can also get mesh covers for the gutters to stop leaves accumulating - worth it if they're near trees.
