The Jimmy have gluten free bread available, and at least are aware of gluten free :) They also serve t-leaf-t, and are 2 buildings down from home/work, so it's all good :)

Burger Fuel don't do vegetarian gluten free :(

Deluxe do have the best gluten free selection I've seen in a café, and really tasty as well. They had banoffee pie once. *drool*.

Most other cafés have a token gluten free item somewhere.

Also Sweet Mother's Kitchen have a couple of gluten free things, though I can't say it's amazing.

Oh no I thought at least one of the burger fuel vegetarian patties would be gluten free :(

The tricky thing is, a lot of places I go in and ask for gluten free they say... "oh, the chicken salad!" or something.

I've never eaten at The Jimmy, I'll try there one day...

Deluxe is always a pleasure just from the vegetarian/vegan perspective :)

At the moment I'm just avoiding wheat, which basically means I am still having soy milk. If I go fully gluten free I'll be sad because no more hot chocolates :(

Burger fuel use breadcrumbs to bind their vegetarian patties :/

As for soy milk, gluten free soy milk does exist and I didn't notice any taste difference, but it did seem more gritty. There's also rice milk, but that isn't as nice.

Oh I know which soy milk is gluten free (so good lite, nature's soy), and I tend to prefer rice milk (vitasoy, not the protein enriched one - and it's no good for whiteneing coffee, but I find it fine for everything else).

My problem is that in cafes, by far the most common soy milk to use is vitasoy original (because it's the one that creams best). I've only come across one cafe in wellington so far that doesn't use vitasoy (holy bagels use so good or did once; and one cafe in Nelson used nature's soy). I also know Maranui in Lyall Bay offers rice milk, but getting a table there is the problem!

I've recently bought cocoa, sugar, and soy milk to keep at work so I can make my own hot chocolates...
