Yes, too me she seems like Madonna squared; or Madonna meets Andy Warhol with a great voice. I expect we'll be seeing good things from her in the future.

Must say, I'm coming to adore the Lady, too...she has real talent and I think we'll enjoy her work for years to come (she's only like, 23!). She can really sing and she can play the piano well enough to do a duet with Elton. The comparisons to Madonna are inevitable, but I think she's better!

One of my faves (hope the embed works)...it's "unofficial" and a bit cheesey, yeah, but SMOKIN' hot!...errr, in a male homoerotic way. :b

The embed worked, and yes hot in a, yes, very male homoerotic way. I'm sometimes jealous of you guys and the honesty about sexuality that seems prevalent in your culture. Women, even in relation with other women, often seem so scared to talk openly about the power dynamics within a sexual relationship. While men seem far more capable of relishing in and playing with it.

I too think she's better than Madonna, or going to be - as much as I appreciate Madonna. Only 23...wow.

Madonna and Lady Gaga being obvious exceptions to this statement about women, which is part of why they are so refreshing. I also think that this overt sexuality is one of the reasons that there were rumors that Lady Gaga might be a hermaphrodite; if someone is that sexual, well then surely she can't be a woman? Aren't women purely passive sexual beings, or can't we pretend that they are and convince them they should be?

I don't get it. Sorry. :(

I get that someone may not get it. But to me it is just so hot. Her music is raw and honest. She talks so openly about power struggles in sexual / romantic relationships in a way that we rarely hear. In Poker Face she works with the metaphor is such a subtle and effective way. I think it's stunning and then combined with this beat that goes into the gut...just hot!

Hmm, yeah see I don’t see real depth in what she writes or does. To me it’s a big entertainment show and a good excuse for her to be and do “eccentric” things, but then again I like subtlety in basically all of what I consume. She’s basically re-packaging the same old schtick. I’m so incredibly bored with sex and sexuality in all things entertainment, so to me this is like oh yay some woman using sexuality as power…AGAIN. Yawn. I’m not a person who is much interested in sexual things though and don't like relationship games/power struggles, and find conversations and intellectual pursuits to be far more appealing, but you know different strokes! I hope I’m not coming across as an asshole here : (

No, you're not coming off as an asshole at all and frankly I am very surprised that this appeals to me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my sexuality has become a much larger part of how I experience myself in the past couple of years. I used to be all cerebral and so even if this isn't all new to the world, maybe my paying attention to it and enjoying it is new.

And yes she is provocative and eccentric and trying to get a reaction, but she's also experimenting with a surprising degree of intelligence and obvious joy.

I've linked to it a couple of times already in the comments, so this might be overkill, but what do you think of this version?

The lyrics don't do it for me, and the music isn't something that I'd seek out on my own, but oh, she gives good video!

It's mostly the lyrics to Poker Face and Bad Romance that I am impressed with. I am a sucker for that type of honesty. And, the extremes that she goes to in the visual is just amazing.

I'm curious what you think of this performance:

It's a fine performance, and I do like being able to parse the lyrics better. The style on this rendition is another type I don't especially enjoy, but I can tell that she knows what she is doing.
