Teyler Museum

Three weeks ago we went with Marilies to the Teyler Museum to see an exhibition about "Royal Gardening". The light that day was incredible and the museum felt like everything a museum should be. I was suddenly reminded of walking through the Natural History Museum in NYC as a kid and getting lost in between the vitrines full of minerals and stones ( Read more... )

Thank you for this. I have to check this out when I find myself there.

Haarlem is not on the main tour route, but it is also not far from Amsterdam and a nice day trip. Definitely worth seeing if you get a chance.

Ok, thanks. Can I look you guys up when I'm in Holland? That would be so lovely.

Sorry for the slow response time to this. That is in no way and indication of you not being welcome. Only a sign that I am slightly scatterbrained and forgetful - and I want to be kind to myself and say "lately", but if I am more honest, this is the normal state of things.

But, be welcome, yes.

Lovely photos.

Was talking to a friend over Easter about Amsterdam. He told me that pride is in August and that's a great time to go? Not yet sure if I can afford this, but definitely seriously thinking of it.

Been meaning to reply to this for a while. Canal Pride is crowded and probably not the easiest moment to find a place to stay in Amsterdam. However, it is lots of fun and worth coming to. And, if you're interested, perhaps I can work something out that you can also participate. Tess and I are busy working on the designs for this years boat for the Trotse Lesboot - Proud Lesbian Boat. We participated last year and had a blast. I can ask about how many spots there are and if you would be welcome, but I am sure you would be. Personally I think the parade is best seen from the boat; you are part of the spirit without being swallowed by the crowds. Let me know if that sounds like a fun idea for you ( ... )

Thanks for the tip about the chairs. I have seen them around. I think Tess was mostly excited about the idea of making them because she has been doing a lot of work with leather lately - made a bag recently and is starting another workshop Friday - so I think she saw it as a potentially fun, future project.

The museum was suprisingly nice. I don't get to Haarlem that often, but always enjoy myself when I do.

"getting lost in between the vitrines full of minerals and stones"

Yup, that's where I would have been too...

Ah, the beauty of the spaces!

Is that floor grill a passive heating system? I've never seen anything like it.

The grill is part of a air /ventilation heating system, I'm assuming. It was beautifully decorative and repeated in many rooms in the museum.
