Appeal to cat owners

Last night, we noticed Ziggy was limping. He's holding his left front paw up in front of him awkwardly, and when we examined it, we discovered that all the fur was missing from around the back of his pad as if it had been pulled out. We don't know what happened - it's *possible* he burnt himself on the hobs but it doesn't really look like a burn. I ( Read more... )

Wash it with warm salt water as you would a piercing. Check that there's nothing stuck there as that could be the cause. Ideally you shouldn't let him lick it as there is loads of bacteria in a cat mouth, so you should get him a conehead. Poor little cat. You should really get a basic insurance premium for him.

Yeah, like I said, I have been planning to get him insured as soon as I can afford the premiums. When I was earning £250-400 a month, even £5/month was a lot!
There's definitely nothing stuck in there, so it's a mystery.

The fur is the only visible sign of damage. He's been resting all day, so hopefully that will help.

My mum has offered to lend me some money for the vet (I get paid at the end of the month, so it's only a loan for a few days), and Tom is happy to take him one day after work. I'm going to see how he seems tomorrow, and if he's no better I'll phone the vet. It'll probably heal fine, but I really don't want to take the risk. Thanks for your inut!

He's walking on all four paws, so that's good! He'll be ok soon, I'm sure. Thank you for asking.

When Erin was limping earlier in the summer, I took her to the vet. After they poked and prodded her, they said it was likely a sprain and to contain her in a room where there's nothing to jump on and it's too small for her to really run around in. She was fine after several days, although she was quite miffed at being shut in one room. We had no idea how she did it, just that we went to sleep and she was fine, we woke up and she was limpy and sad. She probably jumped from the window sill and bungled it. I've not seen her up there since...

How is Ziggy doing?
