I once saw a poster at the local bookstore.

It was entitled "Rules for a Happy Life."

I read the rules, and they were all quite sage. Clearly the author of this piece knew a thing or two about life.

But I only remember one rule. The very first one:

1) Marry the right person. Given that, there is no need for the other rules.

I was going to comment: Doesn't that sound like you're relying on someone else to make you happy?

But the more I thought about it, the more it came to me that the right person lets you be yourself, doesn't depend on you to make his/her goals come true, enjoys you the way you are, is happy to see you improve yourself but won't cramp your style. The perfect spouse is like your bestest friend ever -- your partner in crime, the one you run to when you have the perfect story to tell, the only one who has your back when everyone else thinks you're despicable and even when he himself thinks you are despicable.

Few are fortunate enough to find that person.
