Welcome back! Sorry for the extended hiatus.
I have begun a project to completely revise Ohtori Academy's integration. This is the first part of a rather long True(ish) History of Southern Cross Island, where Ohtori Academy is situated in the modern day.
Of course, that wasn't /always/ its name...

I wonder, I wonder, do you know what I wonder? )

What exactly defines Star Driver as a magical girl series? Not that I disagree with this at all, I'm just kind of surprised. I always thought it was pretty much a mecha show.

Short form: No. Don't let the robots deceive you, this show is magical girl (...boy, I guess) as hell. It is about a magical boy on a mysterious island facing the mysterious threat of a dark magical group with nebulous goals that require them to come into conflict every week.
The robots are practically incidental. And we'll probably need to make sure they can fight outside them, because the robots exist outside the universe.
Needless to say, Star Driver is a rather unique case. Outside of Magic Knight Rayearth, I don't think there's many, and actually probably not /any/, other shows that come out on the BF end of this particular balancing act.

Guess I should watch a couple episodes of it.
