It's spelled apprivoise, but other than that, this was a really interesting read! Is there some kind of supplemental thing==a CD drama or novel or something like that--that got you the info you used for the background?
Most of the background info I got from reading and rereading transcriptions of Sam the Squid-Piercer from earlier episodes and the play from later ones. I think there may have been a short story somewhere, but I actually wrote the background part a few months ago, so I forget which parts are from which.
Ahhh, I see. I wasn't sure if there was actually background material that didn't show up in the anime, or if you'd cobbled it together from the play and the Northern Maiden's story. Incidentally, what's her name going to be? She doesn't really have an official one, or at least an official full name if you assume Head calling her "Sakana-chan" isn't meant to be Fish Girl and really is her actual name.
Okay. My worry is that 90% of characters are not going to have giant robots or any access to giant robots, so I don't want 'has a giant robot' to be a win button for those that do have one.
To add, the robots in, say, Rayearth should not be used very often against non-robot opponents. They're just too big and destructive to be practical on an everyday basis. (And that's after they're even usable, which takes a while.)
Cybodies can't be used outside of Zero Time, as Mokona's noted, and Mashins, like other powerful relics, shouldn't be pulled out for just any situation.
I've been waiting for this spotlight for quite some time and I'm glad to finally see it!
I actually sort of disagree very slightly with some other opinions and I'm kind of fine with these robots having a marginal difference in power with the majority, but more for the reason that ... well, your average desertian or zakenna or witch is pretty ass-massive ANYWAY and team efforts usually take them down.
I personally see that as a good level of parity. Something like a mecha could fight a giant MOTW one on one, whereas it takes group efforts to typically deal with it on foot.
But there's this whole Zero Time thing that mekes it so they'll be seen rarely ANYWAY.

Rayearth has robots, but since we're in season 1, we probably won't see them for a while.

There's supposed to be a movie coming out this year, though. Maybe we'll find out more!
