School uniforms

Sorry about the lack of post last week! This week, we have more information on the three schools: Ohtori, Mahora, and Juuban. Namely, the uniforms!

So, with all these different themes at only three schools, we figured it would ICly be a little chaotic if everyone wore the uniform from their own series. After all, school uniforms in Japan are pretty ubiquitous, and it would be silly for everyone to just wear whatever! Especially wildly differing uniforms.

Each of the schools have official uniforms for their elementary, middle, and high school branches, based on the uniforms from some of our core themes. Most of the schools are fairly lax, however, and will allow personal touches: ties, ribbons, socks, sweaters, etc. If your character is from a theme with a unique uniform, you can make a blend of the two! Played characters often get away with more personal touches to their uniforms. Student Council members also usually have variations on their uniform.
Here are the official uniforms we are using:
Ohtori: Elementary (Shugo Chara), Middle (Utena), High (Mai HiME)
Mahora: Elementary (Nanoha), Middle (Negima), High (Heartcatch Pretty Cure)
Juuban: Elementary (Cardcaptor Sakura), Middle (Sailor Moon) , High (Male: Ikuto@Shugo Chara, Female: Sailor Moon)

Here are some pictures and descriptions.  It is the nature of the beast that there's a lot less out there for boys than for girls; such is life.

Ohtori:

Elementary school students wear plaid color-coded by gender: short red pleated skirts for girls, long blue shorts for boys.  White dress shirts and black blazers (and vests, beneath) for all, with red plaid ties for girls, blue plaid ties for boys (a common personalization is to wear a bowtie, scarf or other such thing instead, so long as it's the appropriate plaid).  Knee high white socks and black shoes are standard for both genders; variation is common.  They leave the blazers off in the summer.  The plaid capes are a Guardian thing (not shown here, but common in Shugo Chara art) and not a standard part of the uniform.

Middle school students have the extreme misfortune of teal; boys are head-to-toe in teal slacks and a black-trimmed, zip-up teal jacket (white dress shirt beneath).  Girls wear the shortest skirts of any school, pleated teal trimmed with a wide white stripe on the bottom, fitted white dress shirts with hugely poofy shoulder sleeves, and red and yellow ties beneath teal sailor collars with a thin white stripe.  Their cuffs are plain white.  One would suppose that in winter they'd throw a teal blazer over this, but it isn't ever seen in the show.  White socks and black shoes are standard.  It's worth noting that almost no important character in Utena is actually caught dead in one of these uniforms; only flimsy justification is necessary for alternatives so extreme as to be practically unrecognizable (student council/duelists have the easiest time getting out of the teal, but it's not impossible for others), held in common mostly with high class European sensibilities like golden cords and whatnot.

Demonstrating basic Ohtori uniforms /and/ attitudes:

High school students 'upgrade' from teal to mustard (hooray?) but with more standard flexibility outside a few core components.  Everyone wears beige slacks (boys) and fairly short pleated skirts (girls), yellow vests in summer and blazers in winter, sometimes accompanied by a red, white-striped bandana.  White dress shirts underneath are common but anything goes.  Student council goes for cream instead of mustard.  Shoes and socks are dealers' choice.

Mahora:

Elementary school students wear white trimmed with navy blue, topped with sailor collars tied with thin red bows (girls) or matching navy ties (boys).  Everyone has a navy T-shirt as their lowest layer.  Girls wear white dresses and split bolero jackets, boys wear white longshorts and baggy jackets.  The Mahora seal is on everyone's left (and only) breast pocket.  Brown leather loafers and white socks are standard.

We're looking at Nanoha, not Fate, of course. Most Mahora elementary school students don't carry Midchildan Devices around, and the ones that do keep them out of combat form while class is in session.

There are boys in Nanoha, really.  See... there's one!  And another one!  And another!  But... that's about it.

The Mahora Academy crest:

Middle school students wear sober plum blazers and vests, both trimmed and secured with little golden buttons and emblazoned with the Mahora seal on the left breast pocket.  They leave off the blazers in summer.  White dress shirts are standard (long-sleeved in winter, short- in summer).  Red ties or thin bows are common around the neck, but some students wear other colors.  Girls wear short, pleated red plaid skirts; boys wear dark plum slacks.   Black knee socks and brown loafers are standard.

High school students dress almost identically to their middle school compatriots, but the vest and blazer are light gray, the skirt is dark gray, the boys' pants are a paler gray-blue (they just can't catch a break), and the plaid is banished entirely.  The ties remain red stringbows (especially for girls) and straight ties (for boys), but the boyish ties are red and gray-striped.  Dark gray knee-socks, black leather shoes, are the standard.

Juuban:

Elementary school students, one and all, wear poofy white sailor berets adorned with a black ribbon.  The removal of this accessory come middle school is met with relief and a sense of coming of age.  In winter, both genders wear a black jacket with white sailor collar, tie and cuffs (each trimmed with a red stripe).  Girls wear pleated white skirts, boys wear long black shorts.  In summer, both genders wear a white shirt, trimmed with navy blue stripes on the white sailor collar, red tie and shoulder-length cuffs.  Girls' skirts are gray, as are boys' shorts.  White socks and black shoes, year-round.

Middle school boys wear a fairly standard navy blue suit with slacks and a high-collared, button-up jacket with a white buttoned shirt (long-sleeved in winter, short-sleeved in summer) beneath.  Middle school girls wear medium blue seifuku: the blue sailor collar has two thin white stripes and is secured with a red ribbon bow.  The (rather short and not tucked in) shirt is white with blue and white striped cuffs at the end of the sleeves (which are wrist-length in winter, and cap the shoulders in the summer).  Their  roughly knee-length, high-waisted blue pleated skirts are notably long compared to many other anime, and have a blue ribbon on the back.  The same white socks and black shoes are standard for everyone, but not overbearingly enforced.

In Umino's dreams, and Usagi's nightmares.  Summer uniforms have shorter sleeves for the girls, boys take off the jacket and just wear the white dress shirt.

High school boys go from navy blue to sophisticated black, and a sleeker, more sophisticated cut; the buttons go.   Middle school girls trade in for a very dark, high-waisted navy blue skirt, bow, collar and cuffs; the collar and cuffs are trimmed with two thin dark red stripes.  The skirts are still (relatively) long and demure, but the bow in the back is gone, sort of the middle-to-high-school equivalent symbol of increased maturity (like getting rid of the elementary school beret).  Shoes and socks remain the same.

Group shot!  Usagi, Minako, Ami and Makoto are in the Juuban High uniform; Usagi's wearing a transformation brooch, it's not standard.
