Fireworks

They whistle through the darkness
Exploding like a mass of rainbow-coloured stars in the night
And I feel my heart clench with every crack-hiss-boom
Because it looks like what I see behind my eyelids
Every time we kiss
Is splayed across the sky tonight

And one explosion of lightcoloursound
Forms a heart against star-studded black velvet
It's like you're here with me
Tracing "forever" into my skin
So I'll never have to think of it, or remember
If I never stop thinking about you in the first place

The way you make me feel
When you hold my hand
Kiss my fingers
Let our foreheads touch
Fall asleep on my shoulder...
The way you make me feel
Is like all those fireworks crackling
Breathtaking (beautiful)
And when I feel like I might finally catch my breath
You take it away all over again
And the fireworks never stop sparkling
In my fingertips, my toes
Tingling
Making my heart stutter
And my stomach flutter
Loving you more with every moment I lose myself in your light

They're playing our songs in the bandshell
And I can't help it, I'm tearing up
I can almost feel your fingers intertwined with mine
And this moment would be picture-perfect
If I had you here with me
Watching fire fall like unhinged stars
Like a rainshower of iridescent sparks
Looking as if they're close enough to touch
(Would they be as warm
As your heartbeat against my cheek?)

The show ends and the magic is over
But I find I am not sad to see it finish
Because I know the fireworks in your kisses
(In your touches
In your eyes
In your voice
In your words
In everything you do)
Will never lose their brightness, colour, sound
Because they explode inside my heart
Where their fire keeps burning
Forever
(I kiss those promises into your skin
And the fireworks keep sparkling)
