The Floors

Dear Dance Club Exec 2013-2014:

I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you guys how important you are to me and how much I appreciate the influence you have had on my life.

On the floors of the Fitzhenry studios, I first danced in your midst. I was a nervous wreck fresh out of high school, barely even made a peep in your rehearsals until well into the first term (for some of you that took way longer...). I first danced with you and there was awe, inspiration, and a little bit of fear--but you pushed me to keep learning, keep working at it and one day I would earn my place to dance with you. I would belong somewhere, to someone, and dancing would keep us together.

On the floors of the Rose Hill studio, I learned by lessons and I met my struggles. My reflection watched as I opened my mind and opened my heart to the new people that shared in my passion and love for what we do. We loved and learned from each other, but most importantly we danced--a sort of conversation that only we would ever understand. Honest, bare, raw. I put myself forth and prayed you would take me as I am.

You did.

On the floors of the mezz, I shared my laughter, my grief, my joy, and my art. In return, you shared yours. It was here that we became a family, on those salt-crusted, dirty floors that treasured every imprint of our sweaty hands and our calloused feet. It was those floors that grounded us, bound us together and made us stronger. It drove us to work harder, achieve more, strive to be better. And we walked out a little breathless, a little tired, and more in love with what we do than ever before.

On the floors of the stage, I stood with you on common ground and I will never look back. Your friendship, your passion, your talent and your love has shaped me into who I am today. We danced with our hearts on display and our breath catching in our lungs. And on the floors of the stage, we took our last bow together.

I know that most of you are moving on and it's hard to imagine all those floors without your footprints and your energy filling the space upon them. But I know that you will always be with me, dancing on the floors in the chambers of my heart and I will always be ready to dance in yours if you'll let me. Thank you for the opportunity to spread my wings, to grow in love and community amongst the incredible talent you shared with me.

Love,

Sabrina
