My trip to some of the outlaying villages is taking longer than expected - I had hoped to be back within Otogakure by now, but I will be delayed until at least late tonight.

However, my ventures have been successful to an extent: the supplies that we will need for any expansion of the village are being gathered as I write and in a few hours I leave to go discuss with the town’s leader on how best to set up a marketplace of sorts and establish a secure trading post. Once that is in place we will be able to receive shipments of goods in a more efficient manner than before. Also, the possible construction of a dock at the nearest secure riverbank would also be a topic that should be brought up during your meeting with the Rice’s feudal lord.

Speaking of which, a response is expected to arrive within the next day or so.

However, I must warn you that when you return, take care to avoid the northwestern quadrant of the compound - I’ve had it turned into a makeshift sickbay and quarantine zone until I figure out just what sort of illness some of the Suna-nin brought with them. I believe it is a strain of foreign influenza, but I don’t want to take any chances.

As of dawn yesterday, twelve are being confined there: seven children (of both sexes), three adolescences (all male), a middle aged man, and one elderly woman. The number may increase depending on the situation - I instructed two of the vanguard to keep an eye on the population and quarantine anyone that displays any sign of sickness.

I can think of nothing else of significance to report.
