J.K. Rowling has said a few words in follow-up to the final Harry Potter book. I am foolishly relieved about this, because I was pretty disappointed to think we'd never get the answers to these last questions. Apparently, I wasn't the only one.

Finished it last night, late, after I wore my voice out reading it on the drive home. I'm pleased; she managed to pull some rabbits out of the hat that I honestly didn't expect her to do convincingly.

The little interview postscriptum is fun--strictly "where are they now" stuff, though, I'd thought there might be a few how-did-this-happen notes about history or moments in the text. Not that she left much unclear.

I devoutly hope she doesn't give in to any temptation to write further books in this setting--she's defended herself well against obvious follow-ups, so I take that as a sign that she's going to try and resist it. Chocolate Frog cards, though--and, I should hope, some actual chocolate frogs--that's zarking brilliant, and I might be in danger of actually collecting them. Particularly if you can get Agrippa and Ptolemy as well as Harry and Ron.

I was just happy to see that I was right about Snape all along. Some friends and I here in DC had some epic arguments about whether or not Snape was a good guy or a bad guy. To me, he was the most interesting character in the series. But then I've always been a sucker for the anti-hero.

Do I know you from somewhere? Did you ever go to Con-Con when you were younger?

Yeah, I was definitely holding out hope for Snape for a long time... even after the 6th book, though at that point I wasn't as sure about it anymore. I was very satisfied with his redemption... he was a complex and compelling character.

And yes, you know me. I was at Con Con '94. You'd know me as Sherry Spaihts (though my name has undergone a bit of metamorphosis since then), that odd girl who dropped you random letters at several-year intervals but could never seem to keep up sustained correspondence... yeah. That would be me.

It's good to hear from you.
