There is a weird usage of sha'al in the hiphil here. I was not sure what to do with it, so I went with the NASB footnotes and said "lend".

My lexicon includes "lend" as a meaning for the Hiphil.

Don't you wonder if this story somehow got conflated with one about the origin of Saul's name?

verses 26-28 talmida December 5 2005, 19:39:11 UTC
And she said, "With your permission, my lord, as you live, my lord I am the woman who was standing with you here (in this) to pray to the Lord.

For this boy I prayed and the Lord granted to me my request that I had asked from him.

Therefore, I have lent him to the Lord; for all the days that he has, he is lent to the Lord. And he (they?) bowed low there to the Lord.
