Oh, I loved this book and I also would love to see the movie. And I agree about the last 1/3 :)
My 14 y/o son always asks me when I recommend him a book, "Is there any message in it?" Well, in this book, there is. And I wish it was a little less obvious and didactic.

One of the things that I liked the best about "The Secret Life of Bees" was the language... things like "I had to step over a big old pile of his bad mood...."

Also, much of the writing was lyrical. The story was definitely better than "The Mermaid Chair". I really REALLY didn't like that one.
