I think Orac, the Cat of Extreme Lard, may be hiding helium balloons in her fur... when I just weighed her, she was down to something approximating Normal Cat Weight as opposed to Is That A Cat Or A Small Woolly Mammoth (allegedly 4.6 kg down from a high of 5.9).

Or this may just be her way of suggesting she'd really like some dinner now ;)

Wa-Hay :-D

Though watching her trying to pull her lardy arse through the cat flap was always rather amusing!!

Blimey! Maybe the obesity food is really working.

I'm impressed. Fermat reached a high of almost 10kg - he's down from that now, though probably still around 8kg rather than the 4-5 he's supposed to be.

How are you controlling what Orac eats, given you have more than one cat (and presumably there's food around at neighbours' as well)?

For some reason this is not an especially cat-heavy area -- there are a couple of other cats in the general vicinity, but nothing like the cat density at our last place (three at one neighbour, two at the other, plus one of ours). So I don't know that there's all that much to scavenge at neighbours, and they seem not to be interested in actually eating the mice they catch!

We feed them both obesity-management dry food, plus a little wet food in the evening. That way I can leave food down for them during the day without being too concerned that I'm going to come downstairs to find a Garfield-like immobile Orac-shaped lump whose feet will no longer reach the floor. ;)

If we leave food down, Fermat vacuums it up - we have to stand over the three of them at feeding time to stop Fermat pushing the other two off their food and scoffing it as soon as he's finished his own (he also bolts his food, so he's twice as fast as the other cats).

As for local cats...
Us: 3
Next door: 4
Two doors down that way: 2
Just behind us: 2
Across the road: 2
(and those are just the ones that I know)

Hah! Amateur. I think Loki's down to 6.8 or so, down from a high of 7 and a bit.

Yeah, but bear in mind that Orac's littermate Zen is hovering around the 3kg mark and is, in comparison, an itty-bitty wee thing. Orac doesn't really have the "no, really, I'm just big-boned" argument available ;)
