The Abominable Snowmen

Loose Canon's Recon: Okay, I'd heard that the CGI Yeti in this looked really goofy and people thought they shouldn't have attempted to make moving Yeti. I gotta disagree. Yeah, the moving CGI Yeti did look goofy, but anytime they can animate something, anything in a recon, I'm gonna say, "go for it." It means less scrolling text along the ( Read more... )

Honestly, I think that if we had all the episodes on no reconstructions, I wouldn't mind the padding at all. But since I know that isn't possible, I agree that Snowmen was considerably better than Faceless Ones, even if I did like Samantha Briggs and was mostly watching to squeeze out all I could from the last little bits of Ben and Polly!

It's terribly easy not to mind the padding at all when it's not a recon. Not always, though. But usually.

And yeah, as much as I did love the character of Samantha, I'm really starting to see more of Victoria. Although I'm yet to decide who I like more. And yes, wanting to get as much Ben and Polly is WIN. We should finally get our copy of War Machines this week, and I'm terribly excited about it. Woot!!

While I was watching it, I did want Samantha to become a companion, but I think Victoria was probably a better choice since it would create a more interesting (and unusual) TARDIS team. Neither before or since then (at least as far as I've gotten) has there not been someone from the "era" in the TARDIS.

Oooh, War Machines is fantastic aside from the way they threw Dodo away. It does feature a good bit of Ben and Polly though, and you kind of see them in their natural habitat with a bit of backstory, which didn't really happen back then for companions.

Well, Leela wasn't from the "era." And neither was Romana or Adric. But yes, it is generally an unusual dynamic to not have someone from the era as a member of the crew.

I saw War Machines when I watched all the Hartnell's a couple years ago. Dodo's departure was rubbish and an insult to the character. Perhaps they thought that a character with no real intro deserved no real exit. Which is total crap. I loved Dodo, and thought she was great. Either way, I'm still looking forward to the DVD because it's Hartnell on DVD, and those are always so shiny!
