My Letter: L, assigned to me by melliyna .

(this may be slightly darker than I originally intended :)

Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely) - Pink :

Cutting off the phone/ leave me the fuck alone/ tomorrow I'll be begging/ you to come home...

Because it pretty much encapsulates those times when I'm just too twirly or freaked out to fake it effectively....
and yet feel really incredibly alone. Thank god for the Internet. :D

Learning How To Smile- Everclear:

Now there is no perfect place/ Yes I know this is true / we're all just learning how to smile/ that's not easy to do...

Because despite the band/tone/ imagery, at the end of it  there's a wedding in the sunshine, and it's a really rather romantic song about two people finding joy in each other.

Let It Be - The Beatles:

And when the night is cloudy/ there is still a light that shines on me/ shine on 'till tomorrow/ let it be....

Another song about hope. Because sometimes you gotta go with the classics. The Beatles are as much a part of my childhood as classical music. (And also: the AWESOME George guitar solo 2 minutes in.)

Long Road To Ruin- Foo Fighters:

For every piece to fall in place/ forever gone without a trace/ your horizon takes its shape/  No turnin' back don't turn that page

Truthfully, the music outstrips the lyrics on this one, but the lyrics are still pretty good. It's kind of an atheist song, actually; there's a motif of "screw heaven or hell , I choose happiness or misery or whatever comes after, as long as it's with you." Free will can suck, but it's ours.

Lover's Wreck- Gaelic Storm:

Lord why did you take her, she meant so much to me/ Now I'm a wretched soul on a privateer, drowning out at sea/ I'm killing and I'm drinking my blue heart to black / But I swear o lord I'll never sin again, if you bring her back...

It may be my college studies, it may be my childhood love for folk tales, it may be both, but I love folk-rock. Ballads, love songs, drinking song, everything, and Gaelic Storm are one of my favorites. This song has the driving rhythm of the sea, the desperation of love forsaken, and just a little bit of mysticism.
