Yuzuru thought he knew what love was. He thought love was blades against ice, the comforting chill of the rink seeping through his clothes.

He thought love was that feeling he got when he landed a jump after falling every time and wanting to give up. He thought love was getting lost in the music, creating lyrics with his body. He thought love was the stretch of his sinews and muscles as he pulled his limbs into a perfect Biellmann and spun with all of the momentum he could muster.

While he wasn’t wrong, he wasn’t right either. He didn’t know what love was or what it felt like until he met Javier.

Javier made his cheeks glow red and his stomach tie itself into knots; he only knew this reaction as “nervousness” but nervous was the opposite of what Javier made him feel. When he smiled at him, he couldn’t help but smile back and with twice the size and glimmer. When Javier joined him on the ice to practice quad toe jumps and applauded and cheered the first time Yuzuru managed to land it, he felt invincible.

When Javier pulled Yuzuru in for a tight hug and patted his back and told him that he was incredible, he believed him.

When he jumped, he thought of Javier. When he spun, he thought of Javier. When he won, he thought of Javier.

When he thought of love, he thought of Javier.
