[UK]: bisexual actor Alan Cumming receives award for service
As reported in Bi Media Out-bisexual actor Alan Cumming has received his OBE (Order of the British Empire) from (Anne), the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace. At the ceremony he was joined by by his husband Grant Shaffer, his mother Mary and his brother Tom.
Cummings who is Scottish was "dressed almost head-to-toe in tartan" and in speaking to the Herald Scotland he humorously alleged that he opted to follow the true Scots’ tradition for his date at the Palace saying “Yes, I have no underpants on.”
He was honoured for services to film, theatre and the arts - and for his work as a bisexual, lesbian, transgender and gay rights campaigner and said “I have a voice because of my work. I'm loud and I speak my mind.”
On collecting his award in the Palace ballroom, Cummings said, “It was good. It was kind of funny. It's really nice to meet all the different people and see what they've got (their awards) for."
