When Kneecaps go bad....

Feb 18, 2010 13:00

Anyone who sees me on a regular basis recognizes that occasionally I move like a 400 year old cripple. This is from some fairly bad knee pain (and loud grinding noises) I have been having and adamantly ignoring for quite a while now. If you dont go see a doctor, there isnt really a problem ( Read more... )

Good luck on that, having been through therapy 3 times already I know what it is like to have things move on you that shouldn't have

Having had to go through physiotherapy twice for something much less complicated than what you're experiencing, I have to say both times were really effective. In some ways evens enjoyable. The first time (in 2004) involved lots of foot massages. The second time involved ultra sound treatement and electric shocks to my ankle. The electro-therapy was really neat and only very slightly painful.

I have done physio before as well.. for my back, and the electro-therapy is heaven. Where the ultrasound is a long deep soak in a hot tub, the electro-treatment is like having a large Swedish man giving a deep tissue massage. Later in my treatments the therapist would set up the electrodes and a timer and give me the controls for the intensity. I always waited a few minutes before cranking it up almost as high as it would go. He couldn't believe how strong I preferred to have it on.

Sometimes the setting would cause my entire foot to curl and cramp up on it's own. Kinda neat to watch, until I realised that it was *my* foot.

I'm the same way! I always turned the controls waaaaaayyyyyy up for the electro-therapy. I think it surprised my physio, too.

It felt really good up high and too neglible down low. Good to know I'm not the only one!

As someone who's missing 10% of his left kneecap, I kind of know what trouble those kneecaps can be. Luckily, it's not been an issue lately, but I fully expect to have problems when I'm older and my bones aren't as strong as they used to be.

Hopefully you'll make a full recovery in short time, Martin. :)

Ouch. Im not happy with my knees right now... but I definitely dont feel like giving up 10% of them :-)

Im happy so far, as uncomfortable as the tape is... I actually noticed today that it gave me a physical cue to pay attention to my knees, and they seem to hurt less today for it.

I hope the exercises work well and that your kneecaps stop their wandering ways!

I am, thanks. Surgery Monday and then recovery!

Can't wait until everything is all done with. The waiting is almost worse than the treatment. :-)
