I really enjoyed Battlefield: LA for everything you said. It really reminded me of an updated war movie of the like I grew up watching. (I used to watch a ton of Vietnam-era and -inspired films. This still carried that same feel even though it took a decidedly more modern-influenced stance for tactics and atmosphere. Which is very appropriate for today's war.)

I find it really interesting that all of the war movies these days have shifted from Vietnam-style conflicts to conflicts against aliens or zombies or robots. I'm not sure what that says about our culture right now. Maybe it's easier to see a more monstrous enemy than a human, who is far easier to relate to even if one doesn't agree with him or his motives.
