My name is Ashley and i'm 24. I just joined this community and thought i'd say a little something about myself. my husband and I are currently ttc for our first child....with no luck so far. i'm a big girl 5'6'' 275lbs so i'm pretty sure that is the problem because my periods are very far from normal. i'm lucky if i get more than 2 a year sometimes ( Read more... )

Welcome! My husband and I ttc'd for 3 years before we finally 'caught'. We went through the fertility clinic with no avail, too. We finally gave up, went on VC, and I scheduled myself for a surgery that I had been putting off...and lo and behold...preggars!

They didn't know what was wrong with me. My periods are normal, all systems were go, but nothing worked. Keep the faith! It will happen!

Have you researched the possibility of having polycystic ovarian syndrome? How long have you been trying? If you've been trying a year, go see a reproductive endocrinologist. If you aren't getting periods, you aren't ovulating. Good luck!

Have you been to a doctor? 2 periods a year is NOT normal. I'm sure you know this. As for your weight, it's less likely that you being 275 is the problem and way more likely there is actually something amiss, internally. Keep us updated on your TTC efforts!

I agree with the other comments that seeing a doctor for your abnormal periods and possible PCOS. My second recommendation would be to get "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler right away and learning to chart! This will be extremely helpful for several reasons - it can help you doc diagnose you, if you DO get pregnant, you'll know your due date (which can be very difficult to know if you have long cycles and don't know when you ovulate), and it can let you know EXACTLY when you are fertile, no matter when your period is. All just by checking a few signs in the morning.

Best of luck to you!

i had decided if we hadn't gotten pregnant during Dec. then i would buy the book. So i bought it on like Dec. 28th or something becuase i had been testing almost weekly in Dec. and they were all negative. Then the next day i returned from the gym feeling sooo exhausted and my boobs were a little sore so i decided to test.

Oh well I'll get my use out of the book next time i want to make babies.

I agree with everyone else.

for optimal uterine healh,.. you should be having a minimum of 4 periods a year. If you don't get them naturally then steps can and should be taken to make sure you get a draw out bleed to get a period. The easiest way is progesterone for 10 days and then a periods follows in the next week or so.

It is important for your reproductive health that you get to a doctor and discuss your lack of periods and come up with a plan to address this while you work on further concerns with your fertility.

I was exactly like you at that exact age with the exact same weight (I'm slightly taller) and same lack of periods.
