Dream Effects: Happiness at first, but slowly turns into confusion and fear.
The dream opens up to show a kid, all limbs and messy black hair, running around his village. Occasionally Zack hides behind trees from invisible enemies, but when he runs out in the open, he swings his stick and cuts them down.
Yes. This one’s a warrior in the making.
As he goes along the dirt paths, he meets another kid with blond, spiky hair, his trademark. “Heya, Cloud!” Only this Cloud is the same age as our hero, and he welcomes the company, hitting his forearm against Zack’s.
Zack, grinning from his victorious day so far, then keeps walking forward, knowing Cloud will follow. His stick drags along beside him, making a thin, shaky line in the dirt. “So. What are you gonna do once we get to Midgar?”
Cloud shrugs.
Zack laughs and rests the stick against his shoulder. “I know what I’ll do. I’ll get to Midgar and meet Sephiroth, and then be an even better SOLDIER than he is.” Here, he spreads his arms wide. “And everyone will love me and proclaim me the hero of Midgar!” He’s still grinning, quite pleased with this plan.
And then Zack sees his parents at the end of the road, waving to him happily. But there’s someone else with them, standing off to the side, facing away from Zack. There’s a really big sword on his back.
Somehow, Zack recognizes him. And without thinking, he cries out, “Angeal!” Now his voice is deeper, and Zack looks down at himself, seeing a SOLDIER uniform and muscular arms. When he looks up again, Angeal is gone, but in his place is an older Cloud, holding that familiar sword in his lap, face nearly void of all emotion.
And his parents are holding each other, crying.
This is all wrong.
Zack starts running toward them, but finds his way barred by a long line of smooth steel. His eyes follow the blade until he sees the wielder of that sword. “…Sephiroth.”
The silver-haired SOLDIER smirks at Zack. “You will fail, Zack. And you will never be a hero.” As quickly as the words are spoken, Sephiroth points Masamune at Cloud, piercing him through. The Buster sword falls to the ground, Cloud’s blood splashed on it.
Zack screams.
[Zack sits up, gasping, and looks around the room, eyes wide in the dark. He has to take in as much as he can, figure out where he is and what's happening-
...Right. It was just a dream. A really bad, messed up dream.
He runs his hands through his hair and falls back against the pillows. But his eyes remain open. He's not really tired anymore.]
