It's..."reducing" time! *winks*

Why hello all you 46 members of bigbluebox! I'm glad to see there's some interest in this community and I hope the ball gets rolling soon. Don't hesistate to post any "recycling" or "reusage"!

Now that there's a significant number of members, I'd like to see what the concensus would be regarding the infamous "reduce" part of bigbluebox. As you all probably know by now ( Read more... )

I like the drabble idea. However, if someone has a 40,000 word unfinished fic it might be hard to get it within the traditional definition of a drabble (100 words) so my vote goes for a combination of option B (writing a drabble, if the writer feels like taking on that challenge) and option A (not necessarily creating a drabble from the unfinished work, but flashfic or a ficlet or a short oneshot). :)

I vote for a combination of the above. For example, say I post a fic for recycling that's 6000 words. Someone else could both recycle and reduce it and make it better in 3000 words.

It's hard to think of somethign that would fit the "reduce" paradigm of the R's. The original idea was "Reduce your needs so you use less and thus have to recycle less." But to do this right, one would have to write *Less* fanfic. Of course, it's always an idea, especially if you value quality over quantity.

Ah yes, for sure quality over quantity. *points to comment below* What do you think?

But yeah, a combination of the above seems to be a good idea...

It seems to me more to be a "reuse" idea, but I like it anyway. ^__^

Hm... it does. Though, a lot of the concepts kind of overlap. *laughs* I like admiral_yen's idea though, having some free reign on the subject.

There's so many ideas! :)

Mhmm... This just came to me, but what if we were reducing badfic? lol. Take a really, really crap piece of fanfiction and making into something readable.

Of course, I don't know if that's even possible...considering we'd be using someone else's works. Anyways, just throwing something else into the mix.

Continue to brainstorm away everyone! :)

Ha ha that would be awesome too! Actually, come to think of it myself... why don't we just leave the reducing portion of this community open to all sorts of different purposes? Like including all of the above, but you state whatever it is you're really doing? I just figured it might make it easier for everyone to agree and then let them have free reign on the subject.

Maybe? Yes? No? Okay... I'm just gonna stand by what I posted up earlier and keep my mouth shut until you decide oh godly mod. *bows*

I think that free reign would be an awesome idea. That way we can get a lot of different ideas going around.

Though, I was thinking an all around community challenge might be fun too. And please, godly mod? Haha. Well...you could be one too ;) A godly mod that is.

I actually had a different thought in mind when it came to reducing... But my take on it kinda refers to the reduction factor of the workload when it comes to writing.

I imagine a person submitting their fic for suggestions, technical assistance, and or constructive criticism... like asking for a direction with which to continue their writing. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they're giving up their work for someone else to finish, just more or less asking for help. I do however also like the fic sharing idea you have posted above, where you give up what you've done to let someone else try their hand at it. It's a nice way of recycling and I think it fits in nicely with the true purpose of this community.

Voting on the issue also sounds like a good plan. :)

That's a different idea. Hm...reduction factor.

I think with all the awesome ideas bouncing around, free reign sounds the best. But I'm not quite sure yet...Hopefully I'll get some more opinions by the other members of this community before I make a decision.

I like this idea; I like it a lot. It makes sense. We'll be reducing the chances of there being more badfics out there.

YAY! LESS BADFICS!

*dances*

*coughs*

I like the first two ideas. How about a combination/choice between the two?

But I don't really see how a fic exchange has anything to do with reducing... ^^; Or am I missing something? *blurness*

The combination idea seems to be the consensus.

Mhm, for a fic exchange, it means that we'd be "reducing" the amount of unfinished fics.

Anyways, thanks for replying! :)
