don't feel horrible. because in the service industry, and being a customer of the service industry, there's a lot that each party doesn't understand about the other. what may seem simple to some is policy for others. being a cashier once, i bet she fully understood your frustration.
the good thing about this, is that after that experience you had a positive one with her. from what i've heard of who she was - i bet she forgot about the bad experience and remembered the good one.
