The scene was cut because they were a little over the time limit and it was the only scene they could lose without affecting the main storyline. Rather uninteresting, but true. They all loved the scene and didn't want to cut it, but they needed to shorten the episode.

LOL! I guess the worry of incest was a product of fanon. :)

- I actually didn't like that scene very much and was rather relieved it was deleted. But like the above said, it was cut out for time issues.
- Oh, good question. I think it might be a reflection on cultures past and how easily humanity can revert to repression? I've no idea where I'm going with this :D
- Maybe he really, really liked that bonnet.

I didn't like the scene too much either, in fact, I rarely include it in my re-watching (which is probably why I know so little about it). Other than River sensing something was off about Saffron, it didn't really contribute to the plot very much. We all know Simon and River have a tight familial bond, no use getting in the "family way" over it.

I think perhaps the border worlds do revert more back "traditional" male/female roles. I've heard that argument before, at least. But what I don't understand is how/why it's applied to the core worlds, too. Inara is from a core world, Simon and River are. Book might be. Who knows where Saffron is from, but if she has actual companion training versus just being another whore, then doesn't it seem like she's more a core world type, too? I have no idea where I'm going with this either, but I suspect I don't like where I'll end up. *handwaves*

*snicker* He did look shiny in the bonnet! :)
