Office Hours - April 3

Apr 03, 2009 11:42

All of Zoe's usual paperwork had been shoved into drawers, and her desk was covered in books instead. She'd stolen borrowed some zombie-related material from John, and was trying to come up with a plan that didn't involve more students getting attacked. She wasn't even going to try to keep them all inside, but that didn't mean she had to be the one ( Read more... )

After finishing for the moment at the gates, Arthur made his way to what they'd assured him were Lady Zoe's chambers. They... weren't as lavish as he'd expected, but he shrugged that off. He didn't, however, take the liberty of simply marching in. "Lady Zoe," he said, pausing in front of the door. "May I have an audience?"

Being addressed like that had a way of making Zoe feel regal, lavish office or not. "Of course, come in," she said.

Arthur strode in with proper deference, stopping at a respectful distance. "I am Prince Arthur of Camelot, milady," he introduced, formally. "I apologise I haven't spoken to you sooner. I'm here because of the zombie invasion."

The word 'zombie' still sounded a bit odd.

"Why do I get the feeling you're not here to ask if I know any good hiding places?" Zoe asked.

"We've suffered casualties because the students keep spreading out into dangerous areas, milady," Arthur said, respectfully, "A few of us have started work on a barricade just outside the gates. I... hope that doesn't interfere with any defensive action. There simply isn't a great deal of time."

"That doesn't interfere at all," Zoe said. "Anything that keeps students in safer areas is more than fine by me."

"Thank you." Arthur could respect that, so he nodded. "Are there any water... lines," he really still didn't understand the concept, "Underneath the area near the gates? We're looking to dig a trench."

"As far as I know, all the water lines are underneath the buildings," Zoe said. "You should be able to make a trench with no interference." That was something that could be fixed easily enough, she figured.

He nodded. Dinah'd be happy to hear that, no doubt.

... He wondered when in God's name he started listening to Dinah. "Are there any plans to bring the townsfolk in?" Arthur asked, "It might be safer if we get everyone down to one secure location."

"That's something I'll have to discuss with the mayor," Zoe said. Or make Deadpool discuss with him, not that she was still harboring a grudge or anything. "For now, I'm assuming that those in town will know to stay inside their homes and stay safe."

It might be better if they came in, but considering Lady Zoe's station, Arthur kept any pressing of that subject to himself. "Of course," he said, with a bow of his head.

He thought it was kind of a dumb assumption to make, considering.

"I'll see if we can get something organized to get more people together," Zoe offered. "If nothing else, that would make defense much easier."

"Thank you."

And that brought him to another matter he'd wanted to take up with her. "When this crisis is dealt with," he started, "Would you have any reservations if I organised a military reserve with the help of some of our the students?"

"What would the reserve do?" Zoe asked. While she had concerns about anything combining 'students' and 'military' a reserve didn't sound like something immediately objectionable.

"The students have a habit of scattering upon invasion," he said, "It's dangerous. The reserve would be a way for us to get organised so we can respond quickly to threats without throwing ourselves at it blindly."

It still made Zoe uncomfortable to think about sending students to fight, or to even agree to let them plan on fighting. But Zoe had finally had enough experience to know that those who wanted to fight and defend the school couldn't be stopped - they could only be helped.

"Organization might be a foreign concept to some of them. You'd have your work cut out for you," she said.
