PSL part 8

Months and jobs tend to go by smoothly for the next few months. Everyone's feeling pretty light, no one's had to shoot anyone, and they've had a good spread in between takes. Wash was sitting in his chair, his foot up on the console as he looked out into the black. The boat wasn't pulling the fuel consumption he was hoping for, and he was quietly concerned. Not enough to bring it up with anyone but Kaylee yet, but concerned enough to be babysitting the flight through the night instead of letting it fly on auto-pilot.

He turned when he realized that Zoe was there, smiling at her. "Hey, baby. I thought you were asleep."

Even now Zoe gets a little thrill when he smiles at her like that, calls her baby. She loves it more than she'd probably ever admit.

"Woke up, couldn't get back to sleep." She walks in and hands him the cup of tea, standing behind him at his shoulder, eyes scanning the console.

"The nights are long and cold without my radiator," she teases gently, the backs of her fingers stroking the side of his neck.

"Ohhhh tea," Wash said, wrapping both hands around the mug as he leant back in the chair, looking up at his wife. "Sorry, might be a couple o' days before I make it back to bed. She ain't runnin' well."

Zoe frowns a little. "Shenme shi cuo de?" she asks about the boat, moving to sit in the co-pilot's seat. She's always assumed that this old boat would fall apart in the sky anyway, but still. It's concerning to hear there could be an actual problem.
