Last Thursday I proposed and Kim said yes!
We planned 5 nights in Reno and Lake Tahoe. On the first night we checked into the El Dorado at 1am and were friendly with the manager. She decided to upgrade our room. That was nice of her.
It turned out to be a huge 3-room suite with a hottub, two king beds, two marble showers, and three private bathrooms. In the morning we had breakfast in the hottub and I proposed.
The rest of the trip was also good. My parents flew in and we drove to Lake Tahoe. We all stayed at Harvey's. On the first night we had a huge meal at their $30 seafood buffet. All-you-can-eat crab, shrimp, sushi, deserts, plus the usual buffet fare.
On Friday (my birthday) we drove around the lake (72 miles) and did some hiking. There is something called letterboxing that is similar to geocaching. We got our first stamp at the lake. For more information see www.letterboxing.org. That night we took a dinner cruise around the lake.
Saturday we drove back to Reno so my parents could take their return flight. We stopped in Carson City to see the state museum and got to see a coin stamper in action. After dropping parents at the airport, Kim and I drove around Reno and ate at a little Italian place. It was good.
On Sunday we went to one of those things where they spend 90 minutes trying to convince you to buy a timeshare. I kind of enjoyed it and we stayed an extra half hour although we didn't buy anything. They gave us free dinner and showtickets and a voucher for 3 free nights in some hotel. I did some more research and decided that they (Worldmark) are a good deal if you are considering a timeshare. However you can buy into it cheaper on the secondary market (like on ebay or do a google search). They make most of their money on financing so many people buy into it and then realize they don't want it so look for someone else to assume their loan. You can assume the loan and then pay it off at no interest.
Monday we flew out but first stopped into Circus Circus where Kim got some earrings. They were one of those "pick out your own oyster" things. It was fun and she ended up with a beautiful gold colored pearl.
We didn't gamble very much. Kim won everything she played except craps (which I think she may never play again). I lost just about everything we played so we ended up down about $100. I still love those slot machine where you can win a car. People say never to play those but I seem to always come out ahead. Kim won $80 on a quarter Wheel of Fortune game. Normally I gamble more but the saying goes "unlucky at cards, lucky at love" and I'd been lucky at love. (hmm, come to think about it the last time in Vegas I had just separated but won $4000).
At the midway in Circus Circus I won Kim a teddy bear and she won me fuzzy dice (big, cool, purple fuzzy dice). What a great trip!
