* snugs you tightly* I had this happen to me this year i lost music projects stories, art that doesn't exist anymore. Its a piss off there is the optionof data recovery but it is pricey.

Don't throw it out. Data recovery is still a possibility.

Yeah, as ransom said, it is possible to recover damange from a bad drive. Depending on the nature of the failure, this can be easy or rather expensive, but don't lose hope yet.
