1. Split Enz - Six Months In A Leaky Boat
basically the song i've listened to about a hundred and eighty times in the last month, anticipating then fondly remembering the performance at Rod Laver Arena a fortnight ago. absolutely amazing
2. Joe Purdy - Wash Away
lovin this song! instant classic folk track by a bloke who as far as i know is relatively unknown on these shores.
3. Cut Copy - Time Stands Still
awesome electropop track from a great melbourne band. currently on world tour but i urge you to see them when they return here
4. Air feat. Beth Hirsch - All I Need
terrific track from 1998's Moon Safari album by one of Europe's best electronica outfits, with vocals by fellow French Beth Hirsch who I admit I'd never heard of prior to this album
5. Beth Orton - I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine
one of the saddest songs ever written, so I have no idea why I've been listening to it lately, but it's one-eleventh of one of the greatest albums of the 1990's if not ever.
6. Billy Bragg and Wilco feat. Natalie Merchant
gorgeous song written by Woody Guthrie but never recorded until Billy Bragg was approached by Guthrie's daughter to put music to his lyrics. features the beautiful voice of the former 10,000 Maniacs singer as the perfect complement
7. Mogwai - Katrien
one of the best post-rock songs ever written, from the band's first commercially released album Young Team. simply mindblowing!
sidenote: mogwai are playing the corner hotel to promote their new album Mr Beast on the 25th and 26th of july. first show sold out long ago but i urge you to try to get tickets to the second if you like post-rock)
one other thing, got a copy of Sigur Ros's untitled album ( ), aka Brackets, today. brilliant.
