So I know nothing about Europe and need some suggestions for places to see. So all of you who are international travellers put on your thinking caps. The trip so far

Have you been to London before? if so I'm sure you know there's so much to see there in six days. My fav places in London are the museums , of course (esp the National Gallery's new wing, Tate Modern, Royal Academy of Art (on Picaddily street... ) not to mention the amazing parks, little squers, Covent Garden,Hey market, Charring cross, Regent street, bond street...omg... so much more. I just adore this city! Will you be staying in the UK before you go back to London? three weeks is great. You can take 1-2 days tours to beautiful places like Bath, Oxford, Hapmton Court(which is les than 50 min from London by train ), York, Blenhem House (it's relativly 'close'to Bath ) to name but a few. You can even try to go as far as the border to Scotland. I could go on for hours. I hope I was able to help. Google around and see what you like and more importantly how to get there
No, I haven't been to London before. I hadn't planned anything specific but would like to go to Ireland to see Yvonne Reid. Other than that I'm open to suggestions. Will take note of all the places you suggested. Looking to tour around Germany somewhere or surrounding countries.
Going to see Vonnie? it's a briliant idea. There's so much to see in Germany as well, it depentd on what you like to see,I guess, and how you planned to travel.
Probably by train as it's easiest. I was thinking of driving but I think I might be too scared in Germany. I've driven numerous times in America with no problems but really don't want to drive by myself in Europe. I'm open to any suggestions. Love art, theatre, museums, countryside, anything really.
All of it. I'm open to suggestions but would like to spend some time not specifically in London but around Germany. I need to be back in London by 7th July.
I wanted to suggest Ireland ... *g* - which is ... ah.
And London and the area around it is fantastic. As for Germany. Well, I'd go to Berlin first because it's young and quirky and just special. Potsdam is close (only 30 minutes by fast train) with it's history and castles and lots to see there. Hamburg has to be great, but I have never been there. Dresden, too. Munich, of course has a lot to offer as well. Nurnberg, Regensburg, Augsburg - some other (smaller) cities in Bavaria (which is south Germany) Other things? Austria is close by - Munich-Salzburg (as I said) is only 90 minutes by car. Vienna isn't too far either (about 3 hours by train), and fascinating. So - lots to see!
Ok, I was thinking of Berlin on the way to Cologne if I don't go to Cannes. Munich was recced by my friend, Daphne too. So I'll take all of those cities into consideration. At least I have some ideas now.
I'm going to say Munich and Barvaria. Munich is such a fun city and it's so easy to get around in. I can even give you a recommendation for a very reasonable pension in Schwabing, which is basically in the city.
There's so much to do in Munich: The Deutches Museum, there's a few schlosses (palaces) in the area, The auld stadt (old city) which is where the Glockenspiel is which is essentially a foot traffic only open street area/lots of shopping there -- hell, I just love the city and like to go exploring.
There's also Vienna, which is supposed to be absolutely beautiful.
If you decided on Munich, let me know. I'll forward on the email addy of Pension Isabella -- or you can Google it and get it. Let me know if you do decide, and I can give you the name of the owners. Very nice lady and her daughter. They both speak English.
Connor recced Munich as well so I'll let you know in the next day or two. Now I have my Paris accommodation sorted and London I can make some def. plans.
London: I'd want to see the Tower of London, the Wax Museum, the British Museum and bum around Soho and Bond Street, mainly (great shopping there, and this is from a guy who normally loathes shopping).
Paris: The Louvre is always first on my agenda (you need at least a day or two to tour it all), after that the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur (a grand basilica located right in the middle of the artsy quarter), the Eiffel Tower if you're not afraid of heights, Notre Dame Cathedral (awesome place!), and when you're ready to drop after all that Les Deux Magots café, where Hemmingway liked to hang out. :)
Cannes I don't know, I've never been there.
Germany...I'm not sure what you like to tour, but I'd probably pick Berlin first or Munich, but I'm a little biased, I think the Rhein River region where I live is the greatest spot in Germany (and we have the best wines *g*).
Cologne, definitely the Cathedral. Otherwise I haven't seen much of Cologne since we were just there on a stop-over between trains.
Wow, Alex, I'm honoured. I don't think you've ever commented on my posts before - maybe once? Thanks for the recs.
My daughter is a great shopper so I'll mention Soho and Bond Street. I've been to Paris in 2007 and absolutely loved it. My daughter hasn't been so I'll be taking her to all those places you mentioned. Went right to the top of the Eiffel Tower - it was fantastic. Notre Dame was just amazing. One of the few places we didn't see was Montmartre and the Versailles Palace which I'll remedy this time.
Munich and Berlin sound great. Other people have recced them as well. Def. the cathedral in Cologne and we're going to do a one-day river tour.
I apologize - I'm one of the worst with leaving comments on LJ. LOL! I do read all my friends' posts, but don't often have anything constructive to say.
