Recently, it dawned on me the way to achieving world peace. You see, when you believe in something whole heartedly and you use that thing to lead your life, you get offended when someone questions it. Take religion for example. If I walk up to a stranger and tell them that God does not exist, chances are I will be offending them. If I walk up to a person of a non-christian and tell them that "The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ", I'll get anything from a kind shake of the head (like they think I'm misguided) to a special gift of a homicide (worst case scenario).
Even outside of religion. Some old people think that white people dating black people is inappropriate, and other life choices such as sexuality play here too. How often do we hear about a kid being bullied or worse because he/she is gay? Why is it that the "laws of nature" are always taught, but not tolerance? Compassion?
So many emotions drive humanity to act anything but humane. People fear that which is different. I dont care how little, like a protestant being compared to a Presbyterian (they MAY be the same, I dont even know), or it might be a REALLY big difference like a Nun in a convent being compared to a Sadomasochistic Satanist. The fact is, that different emotions can be felt to comfort and attempt to guide someone, but may be taken as a "holier than thou" attitude. How many times have you heard a Christian telling a person of another religion or even NO religion that they are going to pray for their soul because they can't get into heaven without Jesus' help? I've heard it too many times...
What about the Agnostics and the Atheists? One would think that people who don't necessarily believe in a Higher power wouldnt attract or at least be offended by religious remarks, right? A RESOUNDING NO to that hypothesis. The almost sad truth is, that those are both technically religions within themselves. WHile they don't worship, they share ideas and form opinions just like religions. Was the Atheist the one who told the CHristian that God didnt exist? Was the Christian the one who started the argument? Or the person who is questioning the doctrine of religion?
The ONLY way to peace, and I mean TRUE PEACE, is apathy. Of course apathy creates a boring environment all on its own. But what would the world be like without feelings on things like race, religion or sexuality? THink about it. Worship God or deny his presence without starting a Jihad every time someone questions your beliefs. Apathy is the ULTIMATE tolerance. All over the world parents are teaching their children to hate. WHY? Because of past transgressions that have nothing AT ALL to do with those kids, and possiply nothing to do with the parents either!
Now Apathy, just like its' emotional counterparts takes practice and moderation. Taken too seriously, and Apathy can and WILL lead to a world of zombies. I'm not saying stop caring about everything, I'm just saying that if as a species if we can learn to put more emotion into furthering ourselfves along as we currently do tearing ourselves apart, we could create a paradise that the world has ever seen before, and at this current rate never will.
STOP CARING whether your god is the right one.
STOP CARING about who is going to get into heaven.
STOP CARING so much that your friend Greg likes penis.
There is no reason to hate or even hurt someone because of their preferences. Hate them for more important things, like taking the last piece of Bacon at breakfast, or for drinking the last beer when they didnt even bring any to the party in the first place. Try to see the world froman apathetic standpoint. is the argument worthwile? will there EVER be a winner? The only fights worth fighting are the ones that can be resolved. The Arguments that can be won.
Even if Apathy isnt THE answer, using it as a tool will be the best thing that you can do for mankind.
