So, about that Persona...

This is a rant about the flaws of Persona 3...if you don't care, please skip.

So after listening to a podcast about Persona and considering the recent release of Persona 4 I decided to see what all the fuss is about. I borrowed Persona 3 from my friends Eric and Marci (who are admitted Japanophiles). I've honestly steered clear of playing the game because of its emo-esque reputation. (I mean come on, a game were you have to blow your head off to summon FF like demi-gods comes off as being a bit pretentious.)

Thus far I've really enjoyed the game and I'm hoping I can finish it before school begins agian. The social interation combined with a unique turn based combat system is like a breath of fresh air.

The social aspect of this game makes me feel like I need to buy a planner or iPod Touch to keep track of the things I've promised people I'll do who who I actually like or dislike. Considering my "completionist" nature and need to power game my way through an RPG, this game is about to drive me bat shit crazy. Oww no! I've missed a concert that I promised a really shy cute girl I'd go to because I spent the mourning in game watching the equivalent of the Home Shopping network (the Sappy Jelly should arrive in two game day, it was a deal).

Everything about the combat system is good minus how badly it can backfire on you. At random you can have one of your character's weaknesses lead to instant death for the entire team before you even get to take a turn. Overall I'm very much enjoying the combat aspect of the game even though the social links and fusion of the Personas can cause me a minor aneurysm.

And this brings me to the point of my post. Who at Atlus must I kill for them to realize how poorly designed their save system is? I decide to play a bit before I go to work tonight and I'm just now coming to the first full moon of the game that isn't considered a tutorial. It was two days before the event and I spent the first day at the student council room to up my SL in Emperor. Day goes by and I didn't save because I told myself I would save before the event the next day. Next day happens and I am instantly taken after school the 13th hour with not ability to save whatsoever. I go through the event where you have to stop the monorail car within seven minuets or it will crash. No problem, I'm destorying this stuff effortlessly at my level. I get to the end boss who is a seven foot tall woment sitting spread eagle on the ground with no cloths on with the letters B and J over the left and right nipple respectivly.

After you deal her some damage, she summons some minions. No biggie, I kill one and leave the other because time is running short. The one I left caste a single Dia (heal) spell that nearly heals the boss completly to full. I figure out the pattern to this problem which is to knock them down with Bufu (ice) spells so they can't caste spells while I have the others single target her.

I kill her with 8 secs to spare but this hoe's death animation takes 10 secs. to complete so the timer runs out and I've just lost nearly one and half hours of game play because their is no way to save before this boss or in anyway for an entire day. So...why is it that they create an event that takes close to 45 mins to complete with no way in hell to save during that day?
