I will be in NYC this weekend to sing in Carnegie Hall, and I'll have the better part of two days to explore the city.

Obviously, like any other place I visit, I plan to eat and drink my way across the city. Before leaving I must have a bagel, a hot dog, cannoli, Chinese food, a Reuben... and I plan to find a couple bars and sample the local beer ( Read more... )

Oooh! Have a great time! Taking a carriage ride in Central Park, it's amazing, and I recommend going to a couple Broadway shows if possible. :)

Actually... times square is pretty fucking awesome. Lots of amazing shopping, and it's an experience unto itself.

That said, you also need to go the Strand (http://www.strandbooks.com/) a bookstore with 18 miles of books. <3! Also, next door to the strand is a freaking awesome comic shop. Finally, in the square near both of those places, there's often an open air market on the weekends. It's full of all sorts of cool stuff!

all on the lower east side (east village):

the best bagels are in northern NJ. particularly my hometown. I'm serious. in the city, essa bagel might do. (21st st E @ 1st ave)

hot dogs at gray's papaya. or better yet, any one of the street vendors.

cannolis (of many delicious varieties!) at veniero's. (roundabouts 11th st E @ 1st ave)

chinese food... go for tasty vietnamese in chinatown, because you're probably not gonna find the good dim sum places without a local guiding you. on a largely unauthentic note, I really like the Dumpling Man on st marks place. lots of cool shops in that area, should keep you amused for at least a little while.
