Depressed Pussy

Mar 13, 2008 20:21

I struggle with depression.  For most guys that makes me a pussy.  So wax my bikini line and call me a pussy cause I feel blue.

We get a ton of vacation days but few are consecutive so the crazy sleep schedule, crappy food, lack of exeercise all contribute to periods of blues.

These blue periods have been coming and going for three years.

It seems ( Read more... )

Not really. It isn't like I am wandering around in my bathrobe, unshaven sloshing whiskey on to the carpeting from the tumbler from my clammy unwashed hand.

The repetitive nature of my life is depressing and painful. The money makes it trap from which I cannot escape. The natural conclusion would be to change jobs. Since that is not an option I need a new option.

Would you want to be the passenger on a plane where the pilot was depressed?

The airlines don't want that either so while there are programs and supports in place to help, using that help can have significant consequences to a pilot and his career. At the same time I am not deeply depressed and almost all pilots I know would never take the stick if they had even the vaguest impression that they were a danger to their passengers and crew. We don't even take sleeping pills. Very strict rules.

I suffered from minor depression a few years ago, and even though it was minor, talking to a therapist for a few months, as well as changing my environment (going to college), really helped me beat it. I don't know which helped more but whatever it was, talking to someone definitely does help some and I would suggest it. At the very least I can't see how it could hurt (except maybe financially), and it hardly makes you a pussy for going to see someone, no one is perfect and everyone needs help every now and then. Other than that, trying something new, learning a new skill, taking up a new hobby, even doing something simple like rearranging the house or taking a drive somewhere scenic I hadn't been to before or even just catching up with a friend seemed to help me feel better if I was in a bad slump, something to mix it up a little and/or make me feel better about myself ( ... )

Good suggestions all. Would like to go cargo and wouldn't we all like to be fedex? Don't like the Kentucky base, but their pay makes it worthwhile.

Must do more to explore options.

Depression just sucks the wind out of your sails. Really good suggestions you have though. Will implement some this weekend.

Depression does NOT make a man a "pussy." (I hate that word, but hey.) Everyone gets down once in a while... and sometimes extreme things happen to cause a depression. Other times, as has been mentioned before, it is chemical and thus is very difficult to treat without medicines.

Most people with depression, however, pretty much suffer throughout the rest of their lives, as meds only work for a few people, and self-help or therapy requires effort. Those who are depressed generally aren't the best with effort, due to lack of interest. (Not saying this is you... just in general. Coming from my studying of psychology as well as my own personal experience both dealing with depression and helping friends deal with theirs.)

Good luck, and I'm always here if you wanna talk.

It is a self-fulfilling prophesy. If you don't do something you will be depressed but you are too depressed to do something. I read you loud and clear! Thank you for the ear and advice.
