How to talk about challenges without sounding negative

So I had a job interview yesterday and naturally I was asked to provide examples of challenges I faced. I'm worried now that I sounded a little too negative about the technology that we were using and the situation. How do you talk about challenges without sounding negative?

It sounds dorky, but when I have been asked this type of question, I try to use a situation where I have "saved the day". This way the situation is a challenge because it was an extraordinary instance, or a random culmination of events, rather than a challenge because people were stupid or incompetent... that way it doesn't sound negative. I try to focus on how I was prepared, or have a lot of experience, or expertise, rather than on what made the situation a challenge.

Hope that makes sense! How is the job search going?
