i just saw an episode of Housecat Housecalls on animal planet with the same story. the older cat was so pissed about the new one that she hid under the bed all the time.
they got the new cat a climbing tree for him to play on so he would leave the older one alone. they also put a collar with a bell on the new cat so the old cat would have warning when the new cat was coming, lol. of course, they said that it solved their problems but thats tv for ya.
in my experience with cats, they grow tired of the tree/toys/etc. Bailey was 2 years old when i got my boys Dolci & Gambino. she never warmed up to them and i eventually had to find a new home for them (but for other reasons).
good luck with that.

This is the main reason why I decided against another cat. LON has been hiding more than usual just because we moved and he's a big fat baby.

If he keeps it up you should call the vet or bring him in. It could be something else. You want to be safe rather than sorry.
