cycle oregon and the jewish calendar

Cycle Oregon has announced its 2010 route, a ten-day bike tour through northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington that will include a layover in Pendleton during the 100th anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up. The cost of the supported tour (about 850 bucks) is currently beyond me, though I suppose I could save up one year and go. It's always ( Read more... )

Even in the northeast it's the same thing anonymous February 6 2010, 13:56:16 UTC
Most people scheduling things figure that as long as they're not shaving into hannukah time, they've got the whole Jewish calendar thing licked.

Heck, in my state, Easter is a *state holiday.* No kidding. The whole friggin' state shuts down including a lot of gas stations (I'm ok with that part).

But when the local school board tried to add Yom Kippur to the holiday list, you woulda thought it was a sign of the impending apocalypse.

Thanks. I am already aware of Hazon's rides, but I simply can't afford to travel extensively -- or very far away -- with my bicycle. This has pretty much been the stopper for anything of this sort. (I can sometimes swing a deal to trade mechanical support work in exchange for part or all of a ride fee here in Oregon, which makes it possible for me to do local and in-state rides.) Being a fundraiser, I'm not sure Hazon would be in a position to help pay my travel expenses and cover some of my ride fees. And I totally understand, which is why I stick close to home anymore.

Cheers and happy riding --B

Consider the plight of public school teachers. Many cycle, all of them have zero chance of riding Cycle Oregon - at least you have an occasional opportunity.

The Oregon Bike Ride http://www.oregonbicycleride.org/ is scheduled to meet your needs. This year it is in early August and the route starts and ends in Klamath Falls.

It's not as well known as Cycle Oregon. It is a good ride.
