Early this morning just before 7:00am I was getting the coffee ready for when I brought the dogs back in from there walk, I turned on the kitchen faucet and water shot out all over me, the kitchen and the dogs.  I immedately turned off the main water valve, cleaned up the mess, got water from the downstairs bathroom for the coffee and got online to

Yes they could have really gouged you if the wanted.
So did you run down to Lowes, after getting drying off of course, or did you have it on hand knowing in the back of yer mind that it needed to be replaced?

We noticed the faucet leaking about a week ago so we purchased the new one and were planning on installing it. I went through 2 rolls of paper towels trying to mop up all the water.
