Bill wondered if it was hereditary.
Minutes after his head boy badge arrived, a prefect badge came for Charlie. And despite being in his second year, Percy had already earned the nickname “Preprefect” for telling off his housemates.
This worried Bill. He knew of the reputation head prefects could get, and wanted none of it, yet he wouldn’t tolerate rule-breaking or dangerous behaviour.
How could he prove he was still just Bill?
He composed a letter, then copied it over for each Gryffindor in his year:
NEWT revision group. Wednesdays. 7 PM. Seventh year boys’ dormitory. Girls welcome. Bring snacks.

He knew Hermione would be crushed if she saw this. And Bill could hear her coming up the walk.
Thinking quickly, Bill broke a large chunk off his egg and tossed it into a nearby pot plant.
“Hermione!” he exclaimed as she entered the room. “Look what Mum’s sent! You’re lucky; you got the only egg in the house the twins didn’t get to.”
